~~~~~EVENTS COMMITTEE UPDATE~~~~~
INW is excited to bring you “Tipping the Scales” a new event celebrating INW artists and member-driven sponsorship of community projects!
This event is slated to be a hotbed for artists to communally crowd source and raise funds for projects. Participants drive funding by directly voting for each artist’s project with tokens representing monetary value – which is a portion of the ticket price. And if you really like a project, additional tokens will be available for purchase to”tip the scales” in your favorite artists’ direction. INW then contributes a matched funding contribution to artists – as directed by the community voting throughout the evening. We’re still working out the finer details around matched funding allocations, but all participating artists receive the direct contribution reflected by participants.
So get those creative juices flowing and bring it to Tipping the Scales! Look for an early May date – we’ll get those invites out as soon as the venue is confirmed with a contract. Reach out to firstname.lastname@example.org if you’d like to help launch this new program in 2015.
And just in case you missed the recent update on Facebook, our Events Committee is hard at work with all things Critical NW. And now a message from our Events Committee Lead, Bert Sword:
We know a great number of you are eager to know as much specific information about Critical NW as can be obtained in order to schedule your event summer. While we have no definite answer for you right now, here is all of the information we have to help you do your planning,
The dates and site for Critical NW 2015 are intertwined. We have two possible locations with dates attached. If we are to go to LARC, the third week of July, the 13th-19th will be the event days. We are currently in negotiations with the Masonic Family Park in Granite Falls (last year’s home to Photosynthesis). If successful, Critical NW is looking at dates of July 6th-12th.
We hope to hear from the Masons early this week so we may understand contractual obligations and move forward with a decision. No matter what the answer, look for it to be posted on all of the INW pages and information streams.
There are also one or two additional sites that we are looking at, but as of the moment, LARC and MFP are the two most viable options. That isn’t to say that after a visit to one of these new sites we may end up with a new option all together. It is in all of our interests to stick with the facts here and not speculate.
Thank you for your patience and understanding while we try to find a new home for our beloved event.
~~~~~QUARTERLY GRANT PROGRAM~~~~~
The application period has opened for Ignition Northwest’s Quarterly Grant Program. The deadline to apply for funding is Feb 16th.
Your project should meet the mission and vision of Ignition Northwest and the Project/funded portion of project will be completed within the quarter you are applying for (Q2: Apr-Jun 2015)
We prioritize funding NEW interactive, community-driven, collaborative works that are accessible to the public and participatory in scope.

Congratulations to our Q1 recipient, Dan ‘Khan’ Treichel and his fire dragon project. We look forward to seeing it in action.
Skate Like a Girl, one of our 2014 Quarterly Grant recipients, is looking for anyone with woodworking experience who available on weekends. They are wrapping up their portable skate park and need help with their ramp installations. Anyone who is interested in skateboarding or is interested in their child learning to skate should inquire! We can trade a 1hr lesson for any children 12 & under for time spent volunteering on the ramps. If you’d like to volunteer, please contact Jasmin Kwan at email@example.com.
Education granting is alive and well in 2015! We have $2,000 allocated in 2015 for educational opportunities. INW wants to partner with individuals and programs within the community that provide educational opportunities. Can you lead a grant-writing workshop? Are you looking to start an awareness program within your community? Let us hear your ideas or reach out for more information – Please send your inquiries and interest to firstname.lastname@example.org
~~~~~BURN NIGHT LIVES AGAIN~~~~~~~~~~
Many of those in the Seattle community will remember “The CHAC” as the place where it all began. The Lower Level was a community bar that welcomed local burners to gather and be creative every Monday evening, starting a weekly Burn Night. When The CHAC eventually closed, BM Regional Michael Holden began hosting weekly potlucks at his home and thus the Burner Potluck was born.
In the spirit of a moving weekly potluck, your Burning Man Regionals are reviving Burn Night the first Monday of each month. Let’s give it a shot for January – March and gather together at Re-Bar, a local establishment co-owned by long-time burner, festival promoter and DJ, Michael Manahan. Think about what we can do having a large space like the Re-Bar to spread out in. We’ll have access to a sound system, community members can bring projects to work on and performances or discussions can be arranged in the larger room.
The first Burning Potluck took place Jan 5th and was by all accounts, a smashing success. With over 60 people in attendance and dozens of food items shared, it was a great turn out. We look forward to what February 2nd will be like.
Bring your vision to this experiment in community engagement. Weekly Burner Potlucks will continue in its current version; think of Burn Night as the monthly Potluck with a cash bar and tons of space for your creativity..
