Grants Team 5.1 Chair - Jeremy passing torch to Daniel
5.2 Marco staying on to assist and mentor on the Grants Committee.
5.3 Recruiting more people for the grants committee is a must
5.4 Issues with quarterly grants. Come fall/winter weren’t being utilized, so we changed them to annual.
5.5 Not all grants are supposed to be BM projects or critical
E.g. We supported mermaid project for West Seattle Mermaid
Skate like a girl - portable skate ramp
We have paid for and ensured installation of large scale public project
5.6 Programs - INW Open Grants (Non Events Based), Critical Grants, Pratt Scholarship, SeaComp Grants, Education Grants (Workshops are new component of this, could be used for board member skill development, have paid for DPW training and flame effects class), Earmarked funding for special considerations (Maker Faire, Kids and Youth, Social Justice)
5.7 Fund the maker community to teach each other
5.8 Relationship building and community education
e.g. bring fire dept to classes to know safe flame effects from dangerous.
Education $2150, Other $2150
5.10.1 Critical NW: 14 applicants, $10k to be granted for new art, all committed, everyone took a hit and we negotiated scaling down, $4,400 paid out so far, first of 3 payments. $1000 was the most for any project. Refurb grants $1000.
Event does it’s own workshop grants. Producer autonomy.
5.10.2 This year’s budget is very event based. May revisit later.
5.11 Future - Arts A Glow asking for over $2k, were part of BIAS, have been with INW. Complete and well thought out, but it’s for a large amount of money. We have no shortage of funds yet for that.
